A MOTH IS A LIFE

Once upon

An immediate time

I was processing thoughts

on a lounge chair

in my open air patio.

Alas!

A large moth lay hapless, almost motionless on the ground, tethered on both sides by an army of ants.

For reasons beyond me I became fixated.

The moth was alive, but seemed fighting a losing battle.

I was amazed to see such a huge insect overcome by such tiny and defiant creatures.

I did not want a placated moth to succumb so easily.

I, unseated,

then gingerly placed a book leaf beneath the moth’s body and with an incompliant group of the army clinging to its prey. I focused on balancing my patient on his stretcher then walked a tightrope to the back yard.

Away from the danger

I placed the moth on a plant leaf for revival, My day was done, accomplished.

(My apologies to Charles Darwin & Herbert Spencer)
